Gossip Girl

"Hey Upper East siders! Gossip Girl here, your one and only source into the scandalous lives of Manhattan's elite!"

Currently watching the hit CW show Gossip Girl, which aired from 2007-2012, I can hear this sentence as I am typing it. Though some hate it and some love it, the iconic show has been revered as one of the most popular and influential shows of the early 2000s. Just recently, in July of 2021, the show was rebooted by HBO, almost a decade after the original show ended.

Though my interest in this show sparked after seeing ads and trailers for the reboot, I have not actually seen the reboot, opting to watch the original to see what all the hype was about. And honestly, while I'm watching this show, I've noticed some pretty cool impacts of Gossip Girl on LadyPopular.
(If you were here for an in-depth review of either the 2007 or 2021 Gossip Girl, I should tell you that although I will mention a storyline here or an opinion there, but I will not go through the whole show! There are spoilers ahead, so beware and I apologize for not posting yesterday, this post took a little more work than usual! Enjoy!)

Here is the first dress. This is the floral orange Blumarines dress from their summer 2012 collection. Because the show was so popular and Blair Waldorf, a character from the show, was very wealthy she often wore designer outfits and dresses. When I saw this dress in the LadyPopular store, I was surprised and immediately recognized it from the show. If you're wondering where to get this for yourself, it's available in the mall for dollars in many colors, but the orange one was from the show.

Orange dress and shoes in the game

The dress is very pretty, but the shoes, even on the model are not the cutest with this dress. They are kind of tacky with the fringe and I don't know if Blair wore these shoes with the dress on the show, but I don't believe she did.

Another dress that can be found on LadyPopular, is this long, frilly dress worn by Serena Van Der Woodsen. She wore this to her mother's marriage with her long lost lover, Rufus, who is also Serena's boyfriend's dad. Yes, this show likes to have complicated storylines!

This dress is also available in a variety of colors in the mall for dollars. I don't remember where I got the black gloves, but they match exactly to what she is wearing in the show. The yellow is a little darker than the original, but it's pretty similar nonetheless.

The wedding was unsuccessful, as Lily and Rufus, though lovers since highschool, have tried and failed to maintain their relationship. And of course, this complicates things between Dan and Serena since they would be stepsiblings, but also dating each other.

Another dress is this blue dress with black tulle that Blair wears in season 5.

This dress has the same pattern and the black tulle at the bottom, however the dress in the game does not have knotted straps that Blair's dress has. This dress is not that pretty in my opinion, but of course Blair can pull off anything!

This is another dress that looks familiar. This is the Marchesa ombre fringe dress. It is available in the purple color below and a green and silver one.

Serena's purple bow dress

The dress in the game is not exactly the same as the dress here, but the bow and fringe are very accurate and there's no denying it was inspired by this dress. The dress is also available in the mall for dollars, but not a single dress is the exact color scheme of this dress. The closest one seems to be this:

Serena was seen wearing this dress in season 5 of Gossip Girl when she shows up to the hospital following Chuck and Blair's accident. Though Blair loses the baby she was going to have with prince Louis, she survives. Chuck, however, suffered major injuries and remains in the hospital, but eventually pulls through.

I thought this was pretty cool if you want to dress your lady up as any of these characters or just to have the same dress. There are a lot of dresses and outfits that are based on real outfits so let me know if you want me to do another post with some of those.
These are the dresses I noticed. Let me know if you saw any I missed!
